Field Engineer - Lewiston, ME

Under direction of the Director of Technical Services, the Field Engineer is the hands-on technical resource for the computing hardware and operating system at the desktop of the end users, and must perform installations, upgrades, and modifications to the hardware and operating system software.  The Field Engineer will provide second-level diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for end user systems at Central Maine Medical Family corporate and subsidiary sites.  The Field Engineer will work with internal application support analysts, systems administrators, operations, and ACS-HCS central services to maintain desktop and application performance, reliability, desk-side training, and will work with external hardware vendors for maintenance, repair, and upgrades for desktops, laptops, notebooks, personal digital assistants, and printers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

CompTIA A+ and/or Microsoft Certified Professional certification is desirable. Must have experience in the administration and troubleshooting of desktop hardware, application, file, and print operations in a networked environment. Good interpersonal skills are necessary and prior help desk experience is highly desired.

Completion of a 4-year college degree, preferably in Information Systems, or equivalent experience is desired. Knowledge of various desktop hardware, software, networking, and troubleshooting tools is required. The Field Engineer must have the ability to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer systems; must be knowledgeable with appropriate operating systems, messaging systems and directory structures; must have a good working knowledge of TCP/IP and routed TCP/IP networks.  Knowledge of particular server applications or services, including Internet messaging protocols, wireless networking, databases (SQL Server), and electronic mail is highly desirable; must have an understanding of networks, including security, domain structure, and network administration to properly diagnose issues.

TASKS / DUTIES:

  1. System Uptime & Responsiveness
    1. Maintain system availability per ACS/CMMF Master Services Agreement (MSA) contract
    2. Respond to Helpdesk pages and assignments within 15 minutes.
    3. Be responsive to end-user needs for maintenance & repair. Diagnose and resolve any functional issues within the guidelines of the ACS MSA. Notify Director of Technical Services immediately of any problems affecting production.
    4. Work to find a stable solution as fast as possible. Coordinate with other IS staff members to resolve issues.  Keep end-user informed of problem status
  1. Work Orders
    1. Track all troubleshooting and change requests via the helpdesk software package (DK/WOMS). Keep ticket list up-to-date.
    2. Review outstanding work orders with the Director of Technical Services.

    1. Research existing problems, propose and implement new solutions, technologies, features, and improvements to the servers.
    2. Look for new opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and compatibility of the overall business operations as related to the Information Services department. Present suggestions to the Director of Technical Services for consideration and approval.
    3. Consistently employ all available technical resources (e.g. coworkers, Internet, publications) to increase knowledge and technical skills. Utilize these resources for day-to-day troubleshooting activities.

    1. Protect information assets and equipment.  Maintain security of user accounts, passwords and associated security systems and follow all security procedures.
    2. Safe work methods are incorporated into all jobs.  Maintain a clean work area appropriate to the department policy.
  1. Comply with all federal, state and corporate directives as required by company policies.
  1. Demonstrate, as necessary, an understanding of safety, fire, chemical handling, body mechanics and related areas as appropriate to the position.
  1. Attend all ACS and CMHC corporate safety in-services on an annual basis. Comply with CMHC requirements for annual health screenings and iCare training.
  1. Maintain proper ergonomic and body mechanics at all times.  Follow all health procedures and accident-reporting requirements at all times.
  1. Maintain a safe work environment and perform duties of the position in a manner consistent with insuring the safety of self and others.
